3 fields of study that enhance UX knowledge

Great question.
My answer might be a bit biased since it’s based on what I’ve been thinking about lately.
Here are the 3 areas I’m focusing on right now:
  1. Business-focused
  1. Future-focused
  1. Building-focused

1. Growth for business-focused

For this area, it would be Growth, i.e. marketing, design, and business strategy.
Learn how to implement growth systems within a company, recognise key signals, and know when to double down on what’s working.
Growth design is becoming a crucial role and I see a lot of value in that role.

2. AI or ML for future-focused

On a more tech-focused side, I would move into generative AI, machine learning, or other emerging tech.
These fields will be huge in the next 10-20 years and are already shaping how we design and build.
Understanding these technologies will give you an edge as they become more central to design and innovation.

3. Learning to code for building-focused

One subject to be a well-rounded builder is learning how to code.
It’s probably one of the most valuable skills you can have right now.
Being able to design, build, and market products makes you a more well-rounded, adaptable innovator.
