*For context: I’m struggling with how to position myself while applying for jobs. Some companies want me to start as a junior, which doesn’t seem right.

How to position yourself as a career switcher

  1. Have strong case studies showcasing your product design work.
  1. Be able to explain how your branding experience translates to UX. Be specific about the skills you bring to the table and how they apply directly to product design.
  1. Know your UX fundamentals—be prepared to answer technical questions, tackle whiteboard challenges confidently, and give a solid app critique.
The hard truth is, if you’re transitioning, you probably lack specific product design experience. Starting as a junior could be the best option for many people.
But the difference is, you will have a solid foundation to quickly move up to a mid-level role. Just make sure to communicate this clearly with the hiring manager so you're on the same page.
