I’m interested in transitioning from UX research to product management. Do you have any advice on how to make that shift?

Tips for transitioning from UX to Product Management

Product management is fun! Also, the impact is more visible, typically.

There’s actually lots of overlap between UX and PMs:

  • Finding customer problems
  • Creating hypothesis
  • Experimenting and validation

First I would recommend you understand the fundamentals:

  • Product Vision
  • Roadmapping
  • Biz/market
  • Product-led growth (PLG)
Then create your own (mini) product. That’s the best way to learn.

The advice I always give, to get experience, FAST, try:

  • Reach out to your network (friend, family, FB groups, LinkedIn)
  • Offer your service for cheap or FREE
  • Get testimonials after work is complete
  • Try to experiment as much as possible and repeat

To train your brain and think like a PM.

There's a million way to learn:
  • Show your work and experience in a PM portfolio
  • Document your PM journey and learning on social media
  • Info is everywhere podcast, youtube, medium, newsletters, socials
