How to prepare for UX interviews

To crush interviews, you need to:

Know what to expect

  • Do some research on the company’s hiring process—whether it’s multiple rounds, design challenges, or team interviews.
  • Look up common UX interview questions to get a feel for what to expect.
  • Knowing what’s ahead helps you feel more prepared and less anxious.

Be yourself and be honest

  • Don’t try to be perfect; employers just want to get to know the real you.
  • If you don’t know something, be honest and show that you’re open to learning.

Show them how you fit in the organisation

  • They want to know how you’ll vibe with the team, not just your technical skills.
  • Think about how you work with others, handle feedback, and fit into their company culture.
  • Do your research on the company’s culture and show how you align with their values.

Master whiteboard challenges

  • Break the problem down step by step and explain your reasoning as you go.
  • They care more about how you think through a problem than getting the “perfect” answer.
