How to seek help online

Define your goal first

I would first define what you want before reaching out. This will help you focus your efforts and connect with the right people.

For a potential job

  • Start by reaching out to your existing network. These are people who already know you and can offer opportunities or referrals.

For general mentorship

  • Use resources like ADPList to connect with mentors, especially if you're targeting the US market. It's a great way to find experienced professionals who can offer guidance.

For long-term mentorship/mentee relationship

  • Identify people you admire in the field. Think about how you can offer value to them first—whether it’s helping with a project, sharing resources, or contributing in other ways.
  • Building a genuine, reciprocal relationship takes time, so approach it with a mindset of giving.

General rule of thumb

Reach out to people who are a few steps ahead of you in their career.
Their experiences will be more relevant to where you are right now and they can provide more accurate, up-to-date advice based on market realities.
