I want to share my journey as a junior UX designer on social media, but I’m not sure where to start. I’m also trying to build my own experience, but doing UX solo is tough since it’s usually a team effort and requires real-world experience. Can you give me some tips?

How to start posting on social media as a UX designer

At the beginning I made a commitment about posting A LOT, I went for volume and improved over time.
It wasn't scary as I already wrote and published things before on Medium, but I was a bit nervous if I could keep up with my daily schedule.
The best advice is just DO IT, and again and again.
I've been doing it for over a year, posting (almost) every day. And it's only getting more fun.
I recommend you:
  • Capture notes, learnings, whatever you find interesting.
  • Setup a calendar (consistent schedule) and backlog content before you get started so there's no pressure meeting deadlines.
  • What you wanna do is establish a habit of writing (so many benefits) and it's much easier than IG with images, hashtags, etc.

Here’s a roadmap to help you get started with posting online:

How to grow as a solo UX designer

I get you! I've been a lone UX designer too. Here’s how I dealt with the situation:

1. Learn best practices from everywhere

Soaked in all the UX and Product information I could, inside the org, but mostly outside — figuring out what are the best practices I should (and ask my team to) adopt.
I found info from YouTube, articles, podcasts, online resources, etc.

2. Find mentors, inside and outside the company

Lastly, there’s mentorship can be found inside and outside your organisation.
Inside should be your manager, and outside, it could be folks you follow on LinkedIn or simply go on ADPList—don’t let proximity and time zone be the constraint

Here’s a great book on this subject — The User Experience Team of One: A Research and Design Survival Guide by Leah Buley.
Alternatively, I've got tons of resources for a designer like you, check out UX Playbook.
