Is a portfolio website necessary?
Think of your portfolio as a way to showcase your work and prove to hiring managers (and recruiters) that you're the right fit for the job. It’s basically your ticket to landing those first-round interviews.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of Behance.
I feel like it’s more of a social network than a professional portfolio and it's super focused on visuals.
However, I've seen some REALLY outstanding Behance portfolios, but again mostly on UI, branding and motion design.
That said, you don’t need a personal website.
The most important thing is that you can share your portfolio easily with a link.
What to do before picking a portfolio builder
1. Focus on content first
Before choosing a platform, prioritise the content you want to showcase.
The work itself is far more important than the platform you use to display it.
2. Curate your best work
Take the time to select your strongest projects.
Highlight not just the final designs, but also your process, challenges, and the impact you made.
3. Quality over quantity
Don’t rush to add everything you’ve ever worked on.
It’s better to showcase a few well-done projects with detailed case studies than to include lots of work that isn’t as strong.
4. Content takes more time
Expect to spend much more time refining and building out your portfolio content—writing case studies, gathering feedback, and polishing projects—than you will on setting up the portfolio site itself.
5. Platform comes last:
Once your content is ready, then you can choose the right platform to present it.
